The Winter Poem

Beneath me lies the cold,
The pure and the white
Beneath me lies an angel
Wings spread under my arms
There’s nothing to see above
Just the deep grey,
Shedding its last grieves
I watch them fall upon me
Cover me, hide me
I listen to the silenced day
Hear a car passing from far away
A mother scolding her child
A daughter pleading to stay
I squeeze my frozen hands
To feel the soft flakes heal me
Heal my burning life
I still don’t want to believe
Next winter, I’ll be gone.

pipe dreams
